Health Act:

This Act is intended to maintain public health by preventing and removing a broad range of health hazards. There are powers to ensure that persons infected with a communicable disease are both treated and prevented from spreading the disease.

The provincial health officer or a medical health officer may take enforcement action when it is determined that public health may be endangered.

Information on any nuisance or unsanitary condition may be reported to the local authorities by any person affected by the condition.

Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act:

This Act ensures the humane treatment of animals by providing a legislative mandate for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in British Columbia (SPCA). It outlines the membership, the constitution and powers of the society including the powers of their offices, rights of seizure and disposal or sale of animals taken into custody.

Agricultural Land Commission Act:

The Provincial Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) is an independent Provincial agency responsible for administering the Province's land use zone in favour of agriculture.

The purpose of the Commission is:
-to preserve agricultural land;
-to encourage farming in collaboration with other communities of interest; and
-to encourage local governments, First Nations, the government and its agents to enable and accommodate farm use of agricultural land and uses compatible with agriculture in their plans, bylaws and policies.

According to ALC Legislation some permitted uses currently requiring ?special case? land use applications include pet breeding and kennels.
