Safety Standards Act - Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation:

The Safety Standards Act and the Safety Authority Act fall under the authority of the BC Safety Authority. The delegation of power to the authority is made by means of an administrative agreement with the Province of British Columbia.

The Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Program regulates safety in the area of boilers and pressure vessels, including high pressure boilers, low pressure boilers, hot water boilers, refrigeration units, unfired pressure vessels and fired pressure vessels. In addition to inspecting boilers, the BCSA also reviews new boiler and pressure vessel designs to ensure they meet safety requirements.

In partnership with colleges across Canada, BCSA certifies:
- Fourth to First Class Power Engineers,
- Fifth Class Boiler and Refrigeration Engineers,
- Greenhouse Boiler Operators and Ice Facility Operators.

They also certify graduates of the Boiler and Refrigeration Safety Awareness programs for businesses in British Columbia, and they test and certify individuals who work in the industry to ensure their technical skills are up-to-date.
