Meat Inspection Regulation:
A new British Columbia Meat Inspection Regulation has been enacted under the Food Safety Act. Effective September 1, 2004 the new regulation will replace the Meat Inspection Act and Regulations. The new regulation enhances British Columbia's food safety system by providing a consistent province-wide standard for inspecting meat sold to the public.

Starting September 2006, a new regulation will govern the slaughter of animals for food sales in British Columbia. It will provide a consistent standard for the province. A two-year transitional period will allow existing facilities not subject to licensing and inspection requirements under the old legislation, time to adapt to the new requirements.
