Any person (natural person or corporation) who carries on business under a business name must register.

How do I register my business in Saskatchewan?

Mail, In Person or Fax:

  • In order to register a business name in Saskatchewan the following documentation must be submitted:
    1. A Saskatchewan-biased NUANS name search report is required. You may request this report prior to submitting an Application for Registration, or submit the name search form with the Application for Registration. The fee is $50.00.
    2. Application for Registration of a Sole Proprietorship (Form A) or Application for Registration of a Partnership (Form A.1)
    3. Fee - $65.00.

Submit these forms by mail or bring them to the office at:

Corporations Branch,

S4P 4W5

  • Submit these forms by fax to:
    (306) 787-8999
  • Remember to provide us with your Visa or MasterCard number and expiry date.

Electronically:

  • Using Visa or MasterCard, you may file an Application for Registration through the Corporations Branch Registration Web Site.

Do I have to hire an accountant or lawyer to register?

No. However, the Corporations Branch does not give advice on what type of structure may be appropriate for your business, for example, whether to set up a business as a sole proprietorship, partnership or to incorporate. You should contact a lawyer for your legal concerns or an accountant for your financial concerns.

Once I file the forms and the fees what happens?

Mail, In Person or Fax

  • All documents are placed in the order they were received and checked to see if they have been completed properly and that they do not violate any provision of The Business Names Registration Act. A Certificate of Registration containing a registration number is issued. The duplicate form will be returned to you for your records.
  • Your business name will be registered as of the date all correctly completed forms and fees are received. You may request a later registration date.

Electronically

  • Your registration will be effective the date you started the registration on-line. Your Certificate of Registration will be mailed out to you the next business day.
