Statistics Canada generates and publishes Financial Performance Indicators from business taxation statistics. This publication provides balance sheets, income statements and financial ratios for industries at the 4-digit SIC level. The information can be used to determine the strength of a particular industry and depending on the number of firms in a particular region, you can get down to the provincial level. This information can be used as a bench marking tool, allowing you to measure against your own performance or to compare your own breakdown of costs to the industry average.
NOTE: The Financial Performance Indicators database groups firms according to total annual revenues:
You will want to specify which size class you are interested in examining as well as the SIC code number for your industry.
Access to the Financial Performance Indicators database can be obtained by contacting the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Business Service Centre.
