About Us

OUR MISSION

To reduce the complexity of dealing with various levels of government by consolidating business information in one convenient service.

To improve the start up survival and growth rates of small and medium sized businesses by giving business people in every part of Manitoba access to accurate, timely, and relevant information and referrals, enabling them to make well informed business decisions in a global economy.

To encourage business success through sound business planning, market research, and the use of strategic business information.

The Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre is a partnership between the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba (see the mandate of the Small Business Development Branch ). We deliver services in Manitoba on behalf of 38 federal government departments and organizations, 13 provincial government departments and five private sector partners.

We offer:

  • A comprehensive web site where users can CLICK to find "how to" guides, upcoming events, business and trade information, frequently asked questions, interactive business products and much more.
  • A CALL in service staffed by Business Information Officers who can immediately provide free information on hundreds of government programs, services and regulations.
  • A walk-in information service for clients who want to VISIT and quickly pick up free publications on a variety of business and trade topics.
  • A Business Startup Service for clients who want to come in and talk to somebody one-on-one about starting their own business.
  • An extensive business and trade reference library staffed with professional librarians and technicians who can help you find the information you need on topics ranging from starting a specific type of business to international market research to demographics and so much more.
  • Client workstations connected to the Internet and other searchable online databases.
  • Information Specialists who can help you with business information and best practices in the areas of planning, developing new markets, accessing programs and informed referrals to find the contacts you need.
  • A Guest Advisor Program that offers Manitoba entrepreneurs the opportunity to speak with lawyers, accountants and banking professionals who volunteer their time and share their expertise.
  • Our Export Services include assisting new and existing exporters with international business plans, market intelligence, research and market access.
  • Entrepreneurial Learning through seminars on business and trade development topics such as business planning, exporting, financial management, business startup, e-business, intellectual properties, managing human resources, marketing, franchising and more.
  • A network of regional access sites throughout Manitoba to help entrepreneurs wherever they may live and work.
  • The Aboriginal Business Service Network dedicated to helping new and existing Aboriginal entrepreneurs.
