The world is changing and with those changes comes the need to identify and develop new and more rewarding opportunities. For the people of the First Nations opportunities for personal fulfillment have not always been readily available, often resulting in limited achievement and a frustrating dependence upon government assistance and paternalism.

However, a dramatic and exciting resurrection is underway, fueled by political self-confidence and a renewed pride and interest in Aboriginal culture, language and self-determination. This bold spirit is generating new ideas and concepts, each directed to creating the resources and tools necessary for Canada's Aboriginals to make an equal contribution. One of the most valuable is the introduction of Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corporation.

Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corporation has been established to provide financial resources to qualified member Aboriginal entrepreneurs and businesses in Manitoba. Structured under the guidelines of the Aboriginal Capital Corporation Program of the Canadian Aboriginal Economic Development Strategy, Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corporation was created through the efforts and application of five Manitoba Tribal Councils and a number of Independent First Nations.

While there are other Aboriginal Capital Corporations currently operating in Canada, Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win is mandated to provide assistance exclusively to members within Manitoba. In its role as a resource to Aboriginal enterprise, Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corporation is committed to achieving a number of key objectives. These include:

1. To provide assistance for the establishment, expansion, or diversification of self-sustaining Aboriginal businesses in Manitoba.

2. To improve the access to capital for Aboriginal businesses that have traditionally had difficulty in obtaining conventional commercial financing. This will also help to reduce the dependency on government assistance.

3. To promote the orderly growth and development of the network of commercial loan corporations owned and controlled by Aboriginal people.

For Aboriginal entrepreneurs and business, Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corporation represents a valuable and necessary resource. By working together to support new initiatives, and by encouraging Aboriginal enterprise, Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win and Manitoba's participating First Nations can both help to create a more independent, self-determined tomorrow.
