The Labour Statistics Division within Statistics Canada compiles data for the Employment Insurance program.

Summary

The Employment Insurance program is derived from administrative data that is provided by Human Resources and Social Development Canada. The survey covers contributors requesting or collecting employment insurance benefits in Canada.

Statistics are compiled on a monthly basis for the following components of Employment Insurance program; most information is available for Canada and the provinces:

  • beneficiaries, by type of benefit and gender;
  • beneficiaries receiving regular benefits without reported earnings, by age;
  • disqualification and disentitlements;
  • benefit payment, by type of benefit;
  • average weekly payment (dollars) monthly;
  • weeks paid, by type of benefit;
  • persons covered by employment insurance.

Costs

Selected data series are available on Statistics Canada CANSIM II database.

Data are also available in the Statistics Canada bulletin The Daily. Free electronic access to The Daily is available on the Statistics Canada Web site.
