ADIO works with Canadian assistive device developers, producers and vendors, providing them with advice, support and market intelligence. ADIO also provides its colleagues in other parts of Industry Canada with the information needed to ensure the rights and needs of consumers with disabilities are respected.
Summary
The work of the ADIO falls into three broad areas of activity:- industrial development;
- market development and support;
- industry liaison and advocacy.
To carry out these activities, ADIO:
- gathers and disseminates information on current industry trends;
- provides information on domestic and foreign market opportunities;
- facilitates the formation of strategic partnerships and alliances among domestic and foreign assistive technology firms;
- identifies sources of funding that Canadian assistive device companies may be able to access;
- provides foreign assistive technology firms with information on how to set up business in Canada and helps them to locate Canadian partners or suppliers;
- works with other Federal departments, agencies and non-government organizations to ensure the assistive technology needs and concerns of consumers with disabilities are met;
- participates in the development and adoption of national and international standards.
