In response to the long standing socio-economic problems on the Acadian Peninsula, the provincial government is extending its economic development initiative to a $50 million Acadian Peninsula Economic Development Fund (APEDF).
The APEDF will provide assistance to community-driven initiatives in support of the following themes.
Education & Training
Research & Development
Economic Diversification
Strategic Infrastructure
The APEDF expires April 30, 2009.
Under the management of the Regional Development Corporation, the purpose of the APEDF is to provide funding for economic and social development activities that are consistent with the objectives of a regional Action Plan. The Action Plan, which was developed by the community to guide the implementation of the APEDF, is a long-term initiative that identifies short, medium and long-term objectives to address the challenges facing the region.
The APEDF is designed to be a complementary source of financial assistance to regular departmental budgets, other financial assistance programs and designed to support commercial and non-commercial initiatives. All initiatives must be submitted and sponsored by a department, an agency or Crown Corporation in order to be eligible for funding under the APEDF.
