Opportunities in International Development

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) program Opportunities in International Development describes the various types of work that exist in the field of international development and suggests some early steps to take so that you will be considered for any openings. Professionals may also work on contract with CIDA.

Eligibility Criteria

Participants must be Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status.

Eligible Activities

Various activities that meet CIDA's objective: to work with developing countries and countries in transition to develop the tools to eventually meet their own needs.

Summary

The job categories are:

• temporary or permanent employment as a federal public servant of Canada with CIDA;
• work as a cooperant on contract with CIDA;
• work as a consultant on contract with CIDA;
• internship with the CIDA International Youth Internship;
• work as an advisor/volunteer with a non-governmental organization (NGO);
• work as an advisor on contract with an executing agency managing a CIDA project;
• work as a volunteer for an NGO in Canada;
• work as a volunteer with the United Nations;
• work in a developing country as a technical advisor on contract with a United Nations agency;
• work as a Junior Professional Officer on contract with the United Nations.
