An aid package is available through the Golden Nematode Disaster Program and the Plant Protection Act to provide assistance to potato producers. This assistance is above and beyond that offered through existing programs such as the Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS) Program and Renewal programming.

Assistance under the Golden Nematode Disaster Program includes:

  • a payment to help producers with the costs of disposal of potatoes from fields that have tested negative;
  • a per hectare support payment to help potato producers and producers of nursery and greenhouse crops with extraordinary costs not covered under existing programs;
  • funding to cover the producer share of eligible costs for participating in the Farm Business Assessment (FBA) and the Specialized Business Planning Services - components of the Canadian Farm Business Advisory Services (CFBAS).

Compensation is also available under the Plant Protection Act for the disposal of potatoes from fields that have tested positive for Golden Nematode.
