Summary

The Forestry Act provides for forestry development and research.

The Federal Timber Regulations govern the cutting and removal of timber from federal forest experimental areas and other lands administered and managed by the Canadian Forest Service, Natural Resources Canada. Cutting is permitted under a timber permit or timber sale agreement. Stumpage or royalties paid by contractors for the cutting and removal of timber under a timber permit are those in effect in the province in which the forest is located. Cutting of timber under a timber sale agreement is based on a tendering process. Designated forestry officers of the Canadian Forest Service are responsible for the issuing of timber permits and timber sale agreements, as well as compliance of the regulations.
