Fishers of marine mammals.

Summary

The Fisheries Act governs the management of fisheries resources and habitats and sets out the rules and penalties for day-to-day conservation and management.

The Marine Mammal Regulations set out the rules for the management and control of:

  • fishing for marine mammals and related activities in Canada or in Canadian fisheries waters; and
  • fishing for marine mammals from Canadian fishing vessels in the Antarctic.

Under the Regulations, only licensed fishers may fish for marine mammals.
