Elevators and dealers of grain in Canada.
Getting the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) licence you require is NOT optional: it is legally required under the Canada Grain Act. Penalties for operating without a licence include fines and imprisonment.
Elevators and grain dealers MUST be licensed and post security to cover their liabilities (what they owe) to grain producers. The process of licensing provides a payment protection for producers. The CGC licenses elevator companies and grain dealers.

IMPORTANT: Companies that are unlicensed after August 1, 2006, are subject to fine, closure, or both. All grain companies must be licensed or exempted as of August 1, 2006.
