Using the authority of the federal Feeds Act , the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) administers a national feed program to verify that livestock feeds manufactured and sold in Canada or imported into Canada are safe, effective and are labelled appropriately.
Safe feeds help to produce safe meat, milk and eggs.
Effective feeds contribute to the production and maintenance of healthy, efficient livestock.
Manufacturers, importers and sellers of livestock feed in Canada are regulated under the terms of the feed program. In addition, feed manufacturers, renderers and all producers feeding ruminants must comply with the provisions of the ruminant feed ban.
