Who knew? Saskatchewan has been the birthplace of a number of technology accomplishments that include developing Canada’s first automated banking machines. Lieutenant Governor ![]() Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan His Honour the Honourable Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart, S.O.M., Ph.D. became Saskatchewan’s 20th lieutenant governor on August 1, 2006. He and his wife Naomi have a blended family of three grown children and four grandchildren. The lieutenant governor is the direct representative in Saskatchewan of Her Majesty The Queen of Canada and exercises powers as Head of State within provincial jurisdiction. The lieutenant governor personifies the Crown in Saskatchewan, which is both head and the common link in the constitutional and political structure of the Province - Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.
