What does the Pensions Division do?

The Division administers The Pension Benefits Act, 1992. The Act:

  • provides minimum benefit standards for the rules of all plans. The legislation sets standards with respect to vesting, survivor benefits, locking-in and portability;
  • ensures sound business practices. The Act has extensive disclosure requirements, establishes the duties of a plan administrator and sets investments standards;
  • provides standards for the funding of pension plans.
