Consumers who purchase ready-to-serve beverages in Saskatchewan must pay two fees to the Government. One is an environmental handling charge which goes to offset the environmental cost of beverage containers. The other is a refundable deposit designed to encourage consumers to return their beverage containers for recycling.
Maintaining the province's biodiversity for now and into the future will take planning, cooperation and commitment from the public, special interest groups and the government. The Biodiversity Action Plan guides the conservation actions of all government sectors through to 2009.
A conservation easement is a voluntary legal agreement between a landowner and a qualified conservation agency. Under this agreement, the landowner continues to own and manage the land with benefits to both the landowner and the environment.
Saskatchewan Environment is responsible for administering all Crown resource land in the province. Provides grants up to $5000 to Saskatchewan people who make energy efficient upgrades to their homes.
The Saskatchewan Home Energy Improvement Program (SHEIP) assists low and moderate-income homeowners and rental property owners housing low-income tenants to undertake energy efficiency retrofits.
There is over 1.4 million hectares of land comprised of provincial parks, recreation sites and protected areas in the Saskatchewan Provincial Parks system. These areas preserve important natural and cultural areas and provide places where people can discover and enjoy Saskatchewan's unique heritage.
Offers supplemental grazing on an equitable basis to Saskatchewan livestock producers. The SPP promotes environmental and agricultural sustainability of marginal crown lands through good range land planning and forage management.
