Unlocking Funds for Terminating Members

Members who cease employment can usually transfer their benefits out of the plan rather than receive a pension. Pension Benefits Act changes made in May 2005 may give members more flexibility in how they eventually receive these benefits. Questions on unlocking funds that are transferred out of the plan should be referred to your financial institution or the Manitoba Pension Commission. We understand that transfers may sometimes effect other benefit entitlements like severance. Questions should be referred to your employer or union where applicable.
