The Office of the Fire Commissioner provides an operational level of Emergency Response within the Province. This service is provided whenever a provincial emergency occurs, when we are requested to assist a local Fire Department or Mutual Aid District or in support to the police authority for specific emergency situations.

Emergency Response

This support may be provided by managing an incident, providing resources such as staff and equipment or coordinating the response of other Provincial fire and rescue resources. Some of the types of incidents that the Office of the Fire Commissioner can respond to include:

  • Any Provincial Emergency where life or property is threatened
  • Lost person search and rescue incidents
  • Wildfire interface situations
  • Flood situations
  • Hazardous Materials Incidents
  • Train derailments involving Hazardous Materials
  • Clandestine Lab Incidents

Critical Incident Stress Network

The Office of the Fire Commissioner developed the Critical Incident Stress Management Network for Emergency Response personnel in Manitoba. The Office maintains and supports this Network. This network of trained peers provides Critical Incident stress defusing as well as debriefings to emergency response personnel within the Province.
