Head Restraints
Most cars and trucks are equipped with headrests, but according to a recent survey, most drivers think headrests are just there for comfort. They have a much more important purpose.
The main purpose of the headrest is to guard against whiplash.
Here's how to set yours properly.
First of all, ensure it is high enough to stop the momentum of your head if you are rear-ended. Set the headrest level with the top of you ears. It should also be tilted forward. The closer the headrest is to the back of your head, the safer you'll be.
Also, remember to check or adjust the headrest each time you get into your car, especially if another person has recently been driving it.
A recent research campaign conducted by Manitoba Public Insurance showed that only 36% of the vehicles checked had their headrests in the right position.
In 2001, whiplash injuries cost taxpayers over 15 million dollars.
