Passengers as Distractions Video

Passengers

It's common to have passengers in the car. Sometimes they can
be helpful and sometimes they can be a distraction.

If you are a passenger, try not to take the driver's attention away from the road. Pointing out something at the side of the road like an interesting billboard can be very dangerous.  You also don’t want to engage the driver in an emotional conversation because it’s also a distraction.

As a passenger, you can be a big help in the driving process:

You can also be an extra set of eyes when approaching an intersection or crosswalk. If you see a hazard ahead and you don't think the driver has seen it, don't be afraid to speak up.  Nobody likes a back seat driver, but there are times when a passenger can help make it a safer trip.
