Driving Tips > The 60-Second Driver
Pedestrians
Taking a walk is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise. Would you consider it a potentially dangerous activity?
In 2006, in Manitoba 482 pedestrians were injured by vehicles and 17 died from their injuries.
As drivers, we need to be aware that pedestrians also have rights on the road. When approaching an intersection drivers must yield the right to way to any pedestrians crossing the street.
When a pedestrian is crossing, stop before the crosswalk, which will either be painted on the road, or an imaginary extension of the sidewalk. Perhaps one of the most important rules to remember is that drivers must never pass another vehicle which appears to be stopped for a pedestrian.
