Driving Tips > The 60-Second Driver
Safe Practices Before Start-up
Safe driving can start while you’re walking up to the car.
Try walking the long way around to the driver’s door to check for problems before they become problems (kid’s bike, fluid leaks, pets, etc.)
Also check that your licence plates and lights--front and back--are clean.
Once you’re in the car, make sure the passenger area is cleaned up. For instance, anything hanging from the rear view mirror that blocks part of the view through the windshield should be removed.
Objects in the rear window can make it hard to see what’s behind you, and become dangerous projectiles during a collision.
Once you’re confident everything is shipshape, you’re ready to go.
