Sharing the Road
When driving, you can expect to share the road with other vehicles, people and even animals. Experts at Manitoba Public Insurance say it's every driver’s responsibility to share the road safely.
Here are a couple of examples where sharing the road makes a big difference to others:
- Around large trucks on the highway, it’s a good idea to continually consider the space the truck needs. It takes a lot longer for a truck to maneuver and stop, than a car.
- In the city, give trucks room to make wide turns and never drive in the space between a truck and curb if it appears the truck may be turning.
We need to be aware of animals such as horses because they can easily be scared by vehicles. If you see a horse and rider;
- Approach slowly
- Don’t make any sudden movements
- Avoid using the horn for any reason
It is particularly important to share the road safely with pedestrians.
