Summer Student Employment

Interested in Summer Student Employment?

The GNWT supports northern post-secondary students in their pursuit of education by providing summer work opportunities to help them gain valuable work experience and enhance employment prospects upon completion of their studies.

Post-secondary students are hired as casual employees and are subject to the same terms and conditions as other casual employees.  Between April 15 and August 15, students will be given a higher priority than non-students registered in the same Affirmative Action category for casual employment with the GNWT.

Eligibility:

You must be a current resident of the Northwest Territories and meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • are being accepted to attend full time post-secondary studies at the start of the fall or winter semester.
  • are completing a semester of full time studies at a post-secondary institution within the four months prior to applying under this program.
  • are graduating from a post-secondary institution (see also Northern Graduate Employment Program)

How to Apply:

  1. Applications for Summer Student employment for 2008 will be accepted beginning December 1st, 2007.
  2. Email your cover letter, and a current copy of your resume to chrs@gov.nt.ca
  3. You may be required to provide proof of registration in a post-secondary institution.
  4. You will be contacted by a hiring department if a potential match is found.

Hints for Application:

For your application to be considered, in your resume or cover letter, you MUST include:

  • Your field of study (i.e. Education), level of study (i.e. Diploma) and the number of years you have completed in your program.
  • Updated contact information: Include your email address, phone number and address at school AND at your permanent residence.
  • Your home community and the community where you are willing to work.
  • Your Affirmative Action Status.
