Provincial Park System
- Cottager’s Handbook Revision – The section on Planning
and Installing a Sewage Disposal System has been replaced with the
Homeowner’s Manual for Onsite Wastewater Management Systems, except for the
special locations within certain Provincial Parks which have remained the
same. Applications for OSWM are to be sent directly to the appropriate
Environment Officer in your area.

In order to preserve the
natural state of shore lands for the environment, fish and wildlife habitats,
Manitoba Parks Branch and the Manitoba Hydro Shore Lands Program have adopted
that no more than 25 – 30% of the shore lands be developed. In areas where
development has exceeded 30%, it is encouraged that the shore lands be allowed
to return to their natural state.
It is encouraged to
incorporate natural vegetative features into your shoreline such as planting
deep rooted native grasses, shrubs and trees to help naturalize the shoreline,
and to improve the natural bank stability. Maintaining a buffer zone as a
“no-mow” area will allow the plant roots to penetrate the soil and provide a
long-term shoreline protection. For more information regarding a healthy
