Why live in the NWT?

Known as the "Land of the Midnight Sun" during the summer months and the place where you can get the best view of the northern lights in the winter, the Northwest Territories is a place rich in diversity when it comes to the environment and rich in culture and traditions when it comes to the people.

The Northwest Territories includes 1.17 million square kilometers of mountains, forests, rivers and lakes. The population is approximately 40,000 spread over 33 communities and there are 11 official languages spoken in the Northwest Territories. Yellowknife, the capital city, is located on the shores of Great Slave Lake.

The Government of the Northwest Territories is an interesting and unique place to work. We are one of the three Territories in Canada and our consensus system of government retains some similarities with the traditional way Aboriginal people have made decisions. The only other government that shares the consensus system of government is the recently created Nunavut Government.

The "North" is a wonderful place to live and work!
