0220 Hay River Hub
A Hay River woman and her two nine month old twins escaped serious injury on Valentine's Day when her truck spun out of control on black ice and rolled. After frantic efforts to dig out the twins, who were covered in snow, Shawna Howard found them still in their car seats with only bruises and scratches. She says "Car seats do save lives - I'll tell you that. Car seats and seat belts save lives". Her husband Scott, who saw how violent the crash was, said "I'm pretty grateful we installed the car seats properly, and Shawna took the necessary time that morning to make sure (the twins) were buckled in secure as per the instructions on the car seat." He continued "I just would really want people to know that car seats do save lives and using them properly definitely saved our children's lives this instance."
