Transport Canada Announces Passenger Protect Regulations Effective June 18, 2007
The Passenger Protect program is a Transport Canada aviation security initiative aimed at keeping people who may pose an immediate threat to aviation security from boarding a flight. Air travelers 18 and older are required to provide two pieces of government-issued ID, one of which must contain the person's name, birthdate, and gender or one piece of government-issued photo ID such as a valid passport, drivers licence, or learners permit. NWT residents can obtain a General Identification Card (GIC) if they meet all the requirements. If you plan to use a GIC for air travel, and do not yet have one, apply early - it can take 3-4 weeks before your identification will arrive. For more information on the Passenger Protect program, and what other identification is acceptable, please visit Transport Canada's website Passenger Protect website.

Until March 31, 2008, air travelers under the age of 18 are exempt from these provisions.

Important Notice:
Air travelers reminded to leave liquids, gels, and aerosols behind
One year after Canada adopted restrictions on liquids, gels, and aerosols, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is reminding air travelers that there are restrictions on going through pre-board screening with liquids, gels, and aerosols. Every week, 850,000 containers of over-sized quantities of bottled water, perfume, shampoo, hair gel, and other toiletries are intercepted by screening officers, resulting in delays at the security screening checkpoint as passengers have to unpack and dispose of the items. For more information about the regulations and other packing tips, please visit www.catsa.gc.ca or call CATSA at 1-888-294-2202.
