Mapping the Process - "New Product Development"
Introduction
In today's competitive market, many farm operators are constantly
searching for alternative methods to supplement their income. By
adding value to a raw farm product it is possible to increase
returns. One method of adding value to farm products is "On Farm
Processing".
The purpose of the project "Mapping the Process" is to provide the
agricultural entrepreneur a set of guidelines to follow when adding
value to primary agricultural commodities.
The project outlines the steps involved in developing a new food
product to be processed and marketed directly on a farm.
The project describes ways to increase understanding and
competitive knowledge about new product development, on-farm
processing, and direct farm marketing.
By using this process, the agricultural entrepreneur will increase
efficiency in accessing services provided by government agencies and
industry.
