"Dance/USA's purpose is to advance the art form of dance. As the national service organization for professional dance, Dance/USA works with its membership of professional dance companies, artists, presenters, service organizations, individuals and other organizations supportive of the field to achieve its mission. Dance/USA is grounded in the conviction that the concerns and aspirations of dance artists and institutions can be addressed effectively through active, cooperative endeavors. To advance the art form, Dance/USA seeks to: speak as a united, national voice for the profession; provide forums for the discussion of significant artistic, administrative, governance, educational, audience and funding issues in dance; promote more effective sharing of information within the field and broader communication with allied disciplines and professions; assist professionals in dance by undertaking specific projects that create new tools and increased capacity to carry out their responsibilities; encourage greater knowledge, appreciation and support of the dance art form; encourage higher standards of dance practice, presentation and performance; help dance professionals and the public understand and respect the cultural diversity of the dance art form, and develop strategies that promote fairness in all activities of the field."
