Keith Kelly

Keith Kelly has been actively involved in cultural policy for almost thirty years. While working in the federal government, Keith served as Secretary for the Status of the Artist Task Force, General Secretary of the Canadian Advisory Committee on the Status of the Artist, as well as a granting officer for the Secretary of State Department and the Special Programme of Cultural Initiatives.

Keith Kelly has been actively involved in cultural policy for almost thirty years. While working in the federal government, Keith served as Secretary for the Status of the Artist Task Force, General Secretary of the Canadian Advisory Committee on the Status of the Artist, as well as a granting officer for the Secretary of State Department and the Special Programme of Cultural Initiatives. He served as National Director of the Canadian Conference of the Arts for nine years and as Director of Public Affairs, Research and Communications for the Canada Council for the Arts for six and half years.

He co-chaired several committees of the Canadian Heritage Portfolio including Arts Policy and International Issues. He co-chaired the Steering Committee for terminus1525, a web based forum for young creators, and was instrumental in the creation of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies in 2000. He has represented Canada in a number of delegations to Great Britain, Singapore, Stockholm and Berlin.

He was appointed a member of the Task Force on Alternate Programming by the Minister of Canadian Heritage in 1995 and has made many appearances and presentations to Parliamentary Committees.

In recognition of his work he was given a Special Achievement Award by SOCAN, an Honorary Membership in Canadian Actor’s Equity Association, the Canada 125 Anniversary Medal and the Queens’ Jubilee Medal. He was also awarded the inaugural Keith Kelly Award for Cultural Leadership by the Canadian Conference of the Arts.

He was a founding Board member of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award Foundation and still serves as a founding member of the Hynatyshyn Foundation Board.
