Visit the House


Location

The House of Assembly Chamber is located on the main floor of the Confederation Building (East Block) on Prince Philip Drive, St. John's.


Public Galleries

Visitors may watch the House proceedings from the Public Galleries whenever the House is in session. The House usually sits from 1:30 - 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. The Parliamentary Calendar provides that the House shall ordinarily meet in the Winter/Spring from the second Monday in March with a break for Easter, and in the Fall for a minimum of four weeks adjourning not later than one week before Christmas.


Rules for Visitors

  • Before entering the galleries, visitors must walk through a metal detector at the 3rd floor entrance
  • All cameras, packages, umbrellas, bags (other than small handbags) must be deposited with the attendant
  • Visitors are not permitted to smoke, read books or papers, draw or write, stand in or behind the galleries
  • Use of cameras, tape recorders, radios or electronic devices is prohibited
  • Display of banners, signs or placards is prohibited
  • Visitors must abstain from applause or making any interruption or annoyance

Tours

Tours of the House of Assembly are free. When the House is not is Session tours are available Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory Holidays) at 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm.

School groups are welcome when the House is in Session. Students must arrive by 12:45 pm on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday and by 1:00 pm on Wednesdays.
