About the IJMH

The IJMH is the Journal of the International Maritime Economic History Association. It is a fully-refereed publication for researchers concerned with the economic and social history of the merchant marines, shipbuilding, fishing, ports, trade and maritime societies. The Journal is published semi-annually, in June and December with the assistance of grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and Memorial University of Newfoundland. All subscribers to the IJMH are automatically members of the IMEHA, an international society which not only publishes the IJMH, but also sponsors conferences and provides assistance for the study of maritime history. Each issue of approximately 300 pages contains a variety of feature articles, reflecting the international nature of maritime, economic and social research. There are also research notes, designed to keep readers abreast of important new research that has not yet reached the stage of formal articles or monographs. The Journal publishes historiographical essays by some of the leading figures in maritime history, and articles on sources of use to a wide variety of international scholars. As well, we run a series of forums on important issues in maritime history. We also publish "Roundtables," which feature a number of reviews of an important new book with a response from the author. Our book reviews are truly international in scope and the most extensive in the field. Each subscription to the Journal also includes two copies per year of Research in Maritime History, a series of monographs, collections of essays, bibliographies and original documents designed to further the study of maritime history.
