Social / Cultural Studies at Grenfell
Social / Cultural Studies

You and your classmates might come from a variety of backgrounds, but you all have one thing in common: an innate curiosity…

The desire to find out why people do the things they do.

Our social and cultural studies program investigates culture and how it affects everyday life. Why do we wake our dead… pierce various body parts… feel bound to the place we were born? You’ll learn social scientific theories and methods and apply them to local and global issues.

You will explore cultural practices, study social and cultural changes, examine current economic forces and predict the effects of cultural and political shifts.

The social/cultural studies degree will prepare you for work in social research, non-governmental organizations, social policy and community development, public relations and the expanding cultural tourism sector.

Candice Pike - Social / Cultural Studies Testimonial

“I’ve always been interested in social dynamics,” said Candice. “I like to observe how people interact socially as opposed to psychologically.” Candice plans to work in the field of tourism, although she believes the social/cultural studies program prepares students for anything they want to tackle. “It is a well-rounded program. We apply the skills we learn via researching, communicating and thinking critically.”

Candice Pike, Class of 2008
