Press Release: Historical Event, Aboriginals Gain Right to Vote (1960)
For the First time since the Aboriginal People gained the right to vote under the Canadian Charter of Rights, Aboriginal People have the opportunity to be represented in a political system that did not even recognize them as Canadian citizens until 1960.
A mere 46 years later, the Aboriginal People of Canada have an opportunity to participate in a electoral process, running a new Federal Party that is truly representative of their aspirations as Canadians, and is inclusive to all Canadians seeking diverse representation, First Peoples National Party of Canada
No Federal Party in Canadian History has adequately and honestly represented the Aboriginal People of Canada. This has been reflected in the almost non-existent participation in mainstream politics, and the continued poor social and economic conditions for First Nations people in Canada.
FPNP will be running its first Native candidate ever (Doug Dokis), in the Calgary riding of Calgary Centre-North. Ironically, Jim Prentice, the current incumbent holds the portfolio of Conservative critic of Indian and Northern Affairs in this riding.
Doug is available for interviews, speaking engagements and invites any commentary regarding this historical event, and upcoming community functions.
