Dr. Joanne C. Keselman Appointed to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada

OTTAWA, May 16, 2008 — The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), today announced the appointment of Dr. Joanne Keselman to the Council.

"I would like to welcome Dr. Keselman to SSHRC," said Minister Prentice. "Her years of expertise in research administration will make a strong contribution to the Council as we continue to promote and support research in the social sciences and humanities."

Dr. Keselman is currently Vice-President (Research) and Professor of Psychology at the University of Manitoba, where she previously served as Associate Vice-President (Research). Until recently, she served as Vice-President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

Dr. Keselman is a member of numerous associations, including the Premier of Manitoba's Economic Advisory Council, a member of the board of directors of Destination Winnipeg, ISIS Canada, ArcticNet, and the International Centre of Infectious Diseases.

SSHRC is an independent federal government agency that funds university-based research and graduate training through national peer-reviewed competitions. The Council also partners with public and private sector organizations to focus research and aid the development of better policies and practices in key areas of Canada's social, cultural and economic life.
