James Callon Appointed to the Position of Superintendent of Bankruptcy

OTTAWA, February 29, 2008 — The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy of Canada, today announced the appointment of Mr. James Callon as Superintendent of Bankruptcy. This appointment, made by the Governor-in-Council, is effective March 12, 2008.

"As one of Canada's important marketplace organizations, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB) is responsible for the supervision and administration of our national bankruptcy and insolvency system," said Minister Prentice. "I welcome Mr. Callon to lead the OSB in its delivery of a national program that will ensure that bankruptcies and insolvencies are conducted in a professional, open, impartial and fair manner."

Mr. Callon brings many years of private and public sector experience and expertise to this post. He held a number of positions with the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada. For the past six years, Mr. Callon was the Deputy Commissioner of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, after having also worked at the Department of Finance and the Canada Labour Relations Board.

The primary focus of the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy is the effective delivery of its statutory mandate of supervising the administration of all estates and matters to which the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act applies.
