What does beta mean?

We’re in the process of completely rebuilding the website to make it smarter and easier to use. We’ve got the ball rolling, but we want to you to tell us what you need.

We’re putting in an array of sophisticated tools that you told us you want, along with an Investment Ideas section where you can check out the latest stock and fund picks. And we’ve included a comprehensive Investor Education section that covers hundreds of investing questions that will help take your investing savvy to the next level, whether you’re an absolute novice or an advanced investor.

Where’s my stocklist? Where's my fundlist?

We’ve combined stocklist and fundlist into Watchlist. So now, you can compare stocks and funds on the same list.

You can import your existing stocklist and fundlist to Watchlist. Just click on My Watchlist right under the Globe Investor logo, and you’ll see your stocklist and fundlist in read-only mode. In order to save them, you must register.

How can I see my old stocklist and fundlist cookies?

On the original site, when you create a stocklist or fundlist a cookie is created on your computer. Do NOT delete these cookies, or you will lose your stocklist or fundlist.

You can see the cookies by following these directions:

In Internet Explorer, select ‘Internet Options’ from the ‘Tools’ menu. Click the ‘General’ tab. Under ‘Browsing History’ click the ‘Settings’ button. Click the ‘View Files’ button.

In Firefox, select ‘Options’ from the ‘Tools’ menu. Click the ‘Privacy’ tab. Under ‘Cookies’ click the ‘Show Cookies’ button.

What should I do if the stocklist and fundlist import process fails for some reason?

If, for any reason, you want to restart the import process on the new site, you must delete the right cookies on your computer. First, let’s go over the conditions when the import occurs.

(A) You are NOT logged in when visiting the My Watchlist page.

And,

(B) You do NOT have the following cookies:

- stocklist_user (.theglobeandmail.com domain)

- fundlist_user (.theglobeandmail.com domain)

- used_stocklist (.theglobeandmail.com domain)

- used_fundlist (.theglobeandmail.com domain)

To reinitiate the import, you must do the following, in this order:

(1) Log out from the site to clear all of the session cookies.

(2) Manually delete the four cookies above and visit, or refresh, the My Watchlist page.

Be very careful NOT to delete the following cookies, or you will lose your stocklist or fundlist:

- investor_user (.investdb.theglobeandmail.com domain)

- globefund_uid (.globefunddb.theglobeandmail.com)

Where are the links to items that were on the left rail?

We’ve tried to make it a lot faster, easier and more intuitive for you to find this information on the new Globe Investor.

You’ll find some features, such as the Most Active stocks list, on the Markets Overview page. We’ve tabulated the data for you -- you don’t have to do a thing.

We’re in the process of adding a more sophisticated stock screener. In the meantime, you can still use the filter on the old site.

Where can I search for a stock or fund?

The Search box is on the upper right-hand corner of every page, in red. It also appears at the bottom of every page, in the centre. Just start typing in the name of a stock or a fund, and a range of options will pop up to make it easier for you. Pick any one by clicking on the one you want or hit the Enter key.

I can’t use the site. Did system requirements change?

We are working hard to make sure that the new Globe Investor is a site that works for all our users. We are currently fixing a number of minor issues that users of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6 may experience. You can use the feedback bar across the top of the page or any of the other feedback forms on the site to let us know if you're experiencing difficulty using any part of the site. Thanks for trying out the beta version of Globe Investor!

Do you have any guides on how to use these new features?

We have several! We want the new Globe Investor to be very friendly and easy to use.

Check out our Quick and Easy Guides and our video tutorials. If you need instructions that aren’t there, email us and we’ll write some up for you.

Can I change the website back to what it was before?

We’ve tried to make it a lot faster, easier and more intuitive for you to find information on the new Globe Investor. The new layout is clean and uncluttered -- no more hunting for items in small print on the left margin. If you scroll down any page, you should be able to find what you need pretty easily.

If you can’t, drop us a line, and we’ll be happy to help you.

Is the Globefund website going away or being taken down?

Take a look at the new Funds page, which shows you the most popular funds and the biggest gainers and losers. This will eventually replace the Globefund website. We also have a screener that filters funds according to various performance criteria. And be sure to check out Fund Lookup, which helps you quickly look up the performance of a particular fund.

And now, when you use Watchlist, you can compare funds as well as stocks.

Where is the Noteworthy section?

We’ve revamped the Globe Investor website completely to make it smarter and easier to use. As a result, some features, such as Noteworthy, have been rolled into others.

I have a bookmark, can I still use it?

Yes. Your bookmark should take you to the same page on the old website, which we’ll keep running alongside the new Globe Investor beta version for a while for your convenience.

Can I make the text size larger?

Sure. In your Internet browser, go to the top navigation bar and click on View. Choose Text Size and then a larger text size.

I can’t find the login area! Where is it?

You’ll find it at the very top of the page. If you scroll up to line above the Globe Investor logo, you’ll find a section that has the various sections of the Globe and Mail listed. The login area is to the right of this area.

How can I view closed-end funds?

If you know the name of the fund, type it into the Search box, which is in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
