Eastern accents for Chinese New Year

Get the Year of the Tiger off to a roaring start with a trio of cool accessories

Danny Sinopoli

From Saturday's Globe and Mail

Sure, 2010 may be the Year of the Tiger, but Spanish designer Jaime Hayon’s new set of Toy chopstick holders for Lladro make pandas (or are they mice?) close runners-up. $270 for two at Ministry of the Interior (www.ministryoftheinterior.net).

They smell like almond and look good enough to eat, but Toronto-based Demo Soap Studio’s faux fortune cookies are for washing up, not eating up. $2 each or $12 for six in a takeout-style container through www.demosoap.com.

It’s impolite in Chinese culture to not clean off your plate, so designer Michelle Huang has reimagined her porcelain bowls for Droog with a handy “leftover” bowl affixed at the side. $43 through www.droog.com.
