A federal Conservative Party family feud deepened this week in a riding held by controversial MP Rob Anders as a majority of the members of his Calgary West riding association board quit their posts.
Seventeen riding association board members resigned in protest at the Conservative Party headquarters' decision to seize control of their organization. The board had tried to buck a party decree that been effectively shielding sitting MPs from nomination battles. This brings board resignations this week to 20.
Many departing board members had favoured replacing Mr. Anders with a new candidate to carry the Tory banner into the new election, alleging he was doing a sub-par job.
Mr. Anders said he doesn't think this means the battle in his riding is finished. "I don't think this is over yet. I would be a fool to think it was."
