Globe and Mail Update

This weekend The Globe and Mail marked the anniversary of its Beijing bureau by reflecting on 50 years of reporting from China. The country has changed at a dizzying pace during that time, and The Globe's Estanislao Oziewicz and Geoffrey York have experienced that change first-hand. On Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET, they will be taking your questions about their time in China. Leave a question in advance in our Comments section below, or come back to join us for the live chat.

Mr. Oziewicz arrived in China 28 years ago this month. During his time there in the early 1980s, he saw the first signs of the seismic social and economic shifts that were to come, and wrote a four-part series on the topic that covered issues ranging from the rise of consumerism and environmental degradation. But Mr. Oziewicz writes that some of his most vivid memories of his time in China involve reporting on the country's absorbing, exotic past. After returning to Canada, Mr. Oziewicz held a range of posts at The Globe including Focus editor and investigative reporter. He covered the NATO war against the former Yugoslavia and was Foreign Editor of globeandmail.com. He is now an editor on the paper's news desk.

Mr. York spent six years as The Globe's China correspondent, leaving Beijing last December. During his time in China, he covered major events ranging from the Tibet uprisings and the Beijing Olympics. In his essay in this weekend's Globe, Mr. York writes about the challenges of reporting from China, including dodging police bent on preventing journalists from covering politically sensitive stories. Mr. York is now the newspaper's Africa correspondent, based in Johannesburg.
