Matt Galloway to host CBC Radio One's Metro Morning

CBC regular takes over one of top-rated Toronto morning shows on March 1

With a youthful air of being star-struck by his predecessors at the CBC, Matt Galloway told listeners Monday on Radio One's Metro Morning that it will be a “great honour” to wake up them up come March 1st, when he takes over as the main host of the top-rated morning radio show in Toronto.

CBC executives chose what many viewed as the obvious pick. Galloway, 39, has been a CBC regular for 10 years and already hosts Metro Morning every Friday. The morning program's current host Andy Barrie announced last week that he was stepping down after 15 years in the job, partly due to his Parkinson's disease, although he says he will continue to work for the CBC behind the scenes.

“Matt is, in many ways, already a member of the Metro Morning team,” said Susan Marjetti, managing director of CBC Toronto in a statement today. “He's been filling in for the past year when Andy is away and has helped the show maintain its number-one standing in the community.” The CBC hasn't yet announced who will replace Galloway on Here and Now, Radio One's Toronto afternoon drive-home show.
