DOWN / TSX rises on RIM, EnCana upgrades

Canadian stocks rose for a fourth day, extending a weekly gain, as Research In Motion Ltd. and EnCana Corp. gained on analyst upgrades. RIM climbed 3.3 per cent and EnCana advanced 1.8 per cent, as the S&P/TSX composite added 0.3 per cent.

UP / U.S. stocks fall as China tells banks to boost reserves

U.S. stocks retreated, trimming the market's first weekly gain in more than a month, as China's order for banks to boost reserves fuelled concern growth in the world's fastest growing economy may cool. The S&P 500 fell 0.3 per cent, while the Dow lost 0.5 per cent.
