Statistics Canada reports on manufacturing sales in December. Economists expect a monthly increase of 1.8 per cent.

The U.S. National Association of Home Builders posts its market index reading for February. The reading is expected to remain unchanged at 15.

Kraft Foods Inc. reports. Analysts expect fourth-quarter share profit of 45 cents (U.S.), up from 43 cents a year ago.

Merck & Co. Inc. reports. Fourth-quarter share profit of 78 cents (U.S.) is expected, down from 87 cents a year ago.

Wednesday, Feb. 17

Bank of Canada deputy governor David Longworth gives speech at the C.D. Howe Institute, Toronto.

Statscan releases wholesale sales figures for December. A monthly increase of 1.5 per cent is expected, compared with a gain of 2.5 per cent a month earlier.

The U.S. Department of Commerce releases housing starts and building permits data for January. Economists forecast 580,000 housing starts on an annualized basis, up from 557,000 in December; 620,000 building permits are expected to have been issued on an annualized basis, down from a revised 653,000 in December.

The U.S. Federal Reserve Board reports on industrial production and capacity utilization in January. Industrial production is forecast to increase 0.8 per cent, and the capacity utilization rate is forecast at 72.6 per cent.

The U.S. Federal Open Market Committee release minutes of its Jan. 26 – 27 meeting.

The European Union reports on the trade balance for December, Brussels.

Bank of England publishes minutes of Feb. 3 – 4 Monetary Policy Committee, London.

Bank of Japan holds two-day monetary policy meeting, Tokyo.

Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. reports. Analysts expect fourth-quarter share profit of 21 cents (U.S.), compared with a loss of 1 cent a year ago.

Devon Energy Corp. reports. Fourth-quarter share profit of $1.25 (U.S.) is expected, up from 64 cents a year ago.

Hewlett-Packard Co. reports. First-quarter share profit of $1.05 (U.S.) is expected, up from 93 cents a year ago.

Iamgold Corp. reports. Fourth-quarter share profit of 15 cents (U.S.) is expected, up from 6 cents a year ago.

Kinross Gold Corp. reports. Fourth-quarter share profit of 16 cents (U.S.) is expected, up from 9 cents a year ago.

The U.S. Department of Labour reports on the producer price index for January. Economists expect a monthly increase of 0.8 per cent and a year-over-year increase of 4.4 per cent.

U.S. Labour reports on initial jobless claims for the week ended Feb. 13. Economists forecast 445,000 claims, up from 440,000 a week earlier.

The U.S. Conference Board reports on leading indicators for January. A rise of 0.5 per cent is expected.

European Central Bank Governing Council meets, Frankfurt.

Barrick Gold Corp. reports. Analysts expect fourth-quarter share profit of 54 cents (U.S.) is expected, up from 32 cents a year ago.

Boardwalk REIT reports fourth-quarter results.

Nexen Inc. reports. Fourth-quarter share profit of 49 cents is expected, compared with a loss of 35 cents a year ago.

Penn West Energy Trust reports fourth-quarter results.

Superior Plus Corp. reports. Fourth-quarter share profit of 50 cents is expected, compared with a loss of 23 cents a year ago.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reports. Fourth-quarter share profit of $1.12 (U.S.) is expected, up from $1.03 a year ago.

U.S. Labour Department reports on the consumer price index for January. Economists forecast a monthly rise of 0.3 per cent and a year-over-year increase of 2.8 per cent.

Statistics Canada reports on retail sales in December. Economists expect a monthly rise of 0.3 per cent.

Statscan reports on leading indicators in January. A monthly increase of 1 per cent is forecast.

Bank of Japan Publishes monthly report, Tokyo.

Brookfield Asset Management Inc. reports. Analysts expect fourth-quarter share profit of 4 cents (U.S.), down from 27 cents a year ago.
