Public Opinion Research

It is now a legal requirement for institutions to send written Public Opinion Research (POR) reports to Library and Archives Canada (LAC) within six months of completion of data collection to make them available to the public.

POR reports conducted by the CFIA and posted on the LAC site. Any questions regarding these reports can be directed to: CFIAMaster@inspection.gc.ca

On December 12, 2006 the Federal Accountability Act and its related Action Plan received Royal Assent. The Act contains a number of provisions related to the management of public opinion research and advertising. Similar provisions were incorporated into the Communications Policy of the Government of Canada (http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pubs_pol/sipubs/comm/siglist-eng.asp) in August 2006.

POR reports are posted in the language in which the research was conducted. Pursuant to the Communications Policy of the Government of Canada procedures, an Executive Summary in both official languages is included in all final reports.

Hard copies of reports on research completed prior to August 2006 can be obtained in-person at:

Legal Deposit - Official Publications
