The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulates shell eggs and
processed egg products leaving federally inspected establishments or being
imported into Canada. The CFIA verifies they are safe,
wholesome and graded according to established standards. The Agency also
verifies they are labelled to avoid misleading consumers and facilitate orderly
marketing.
CFIA activities include:
- registration of egg grading stations and manufacturers of prepared egg
products;
- inspection and certification of domestically produced egg products, and
exports;
- residue
testing;
- retail inspection
including enforcing label regulations at retail;
- policy and program development for food labelling and label
verification; and
- verifying that food advertising complies with requirements.
