Chemical Residues and Microbiology Programs

National Chemical Residue Monitoring Program

The Agency operates a National Chemical Residue Monitoring Program to gather information which can be used to determine the occurrence of contaminants in the food supply. The Agency concentrates its inspection, sampling and testing resources on the food products and contaminants where there is the greatest potential for health risks.

National Microbiology Monitoring Program

The CFIA operates a national microbiological monitoring program. The monitoring program includes the random selection and testing of samples for a wide variety of domestic and imported products. Sample tests are done every year to monitor the level of microbiological contamination in the food supply.
